Cruisin' in the mall with my Peeps.
Monday was a busy day. We had a follow-up appointment with Dr. Hussein, Austin’s hernia surgeon. All went well. Austin is healing perfectly and we do not have to return. We then hopped on the road and drove to Niagara Falls to spend a couple of days with Jeff’s grandparents while Jeff was travelling for work. We arrived in time for a quick visit with Jean before dinner, a wonderful stew with dumplings. Austin loved it. We stayed up late but Austin did sleep well once he hit the sheets.
Tuesday was a great day. We had lunch at a little diner with fabulous pie before heading to Penn Centre for shopping. We had much success with our time at the mall: Nan got gifts for Judy and I got gifts for Judy and Jeff. When we returned home, we had dinner before receiving more visitors. Toni and Gene came over to visit with Austin before we popped our little man into bed for the night.
Wednesday started with a visit from Janice. In the afternoon, Nan, Gene, Austin and I took a quick trip out to Costco to pick up a couple of things. We went to Myrl and Marion’s for dinner. They were out shopping all day so we ordered in Swiss Chalet. We returned to Nan’s for the night and had more visitors, Ethel and Lori stopped by for a little while. Austin got to bed late again but that is par for the course when we are away from home.
Nan had to go to the hospital for an ultrasound on Thursday morning. Austin and I stayed home. We all had breakfast when Nan returned. While Austin napped, I started packing the car. It took quite some time. We then had a light lunch before hitting the road to return home. We started laundry and settled in home during the afternoon then had Erich and Erin over for the night. We made nachos for dinner then settled in for a couple of movies before bed. The night was uneventful and everyone slept well.
On Friday, we spent the morning with Erich and Erin. We decided to walk to Lai Lai for lunch. It was delicious. We got the kids back to Mike and Denise in the early afternoon. Steph and Gwen stopped in for a short visit in the late afternoon. We had a quiet night until Jeff returned home from his business trip late Friday night. We were so happy to see him! He spent a bit of time cuddling with Jeff before heading back to bed. Jeff then headed over to Mike’s for his “Boy’s Weekend”. Unfortunate timing but lots of fun.
Jeff came home early Saturday morning so I woke up to a warm body in my bed. What a treat! He couldn’t stay for long before heading back to Mike’s but it was great to see him again. In the afternoon, Austin and I went to Costco to pick up photos and calendars. I used the photos to start my Christmas cards later in the evening once Austin was snug in bed.
Sunday was relatively quiet. I bundled Austin into his snowsuit and we headed out in the stroller. We picked up groceries and mailed cards before returning home. It was cold and not decent to be out for any length of time. Jeff returned from his “Boys Weekend” in time for dinner and we spent the evening together as a family – together again.
Life is good. Now we have to figure out how to set up the tree so that it survives the season.

Monday was a busy day. My friend Denise joined me on a trip to London. I had my final eye exam and confirmed that my retina is completely healed and I can now resume normal activities. That is good news indeed. I have to get off my butt and start exercising again. I’m gaining weight now that I’m home with Austin. We tried to visit Denise’s parents to show off Austin but could not catch them at home. When we returned to Kitchener, Christine, Steve, Olivia, Denise, Erich, and Erin joined us for dinner. We ordered Papa John’s pizza. The kids ran around like crazy while the adults chatted. It was great to get caught up with everyone.
Tuesday Austin and I started car seat shopping. We didn’t make any final decisions but did learn a lot. In the evening I went to donate blood then joined Denise for further shopping and a late evening dessert. This is why I need to start exercising!
Lisa and Ashley came to visit Austin on Wednesday. They brought him a stuffed witch for Halloween and a set of LeapFrog alphabet and number magnets for the dishwasher. He loves his new toys and has been playing with them ever since. In the evening, my Tap Chick friends joined came over to meet Austin and stayed for a Mary Kay party.
Thursday Austin and I went to Niagara Falls to visit Austin’s great grandparents. We went to visit Nan for lunch. We then spent a couple of hours with Marion and Myrl before heading back home to Kitchener. Today is Grampa Avery’s birthday so we called Jeff’s dad to chat later in the evening and send our best wishes.
Austin had hernia surgery at 8:00 a.m. on Friday. We had to be at the hospital for 6:30 so it was a very early morning for everyone. Austin was absolutely perfect. He didn’t complain about being hungry (although we couldn’t feed him). He did not complain at all when we sent him in for surgery. When he got out, we were able to join him in the recovery room. He was tired but did not fuss or cry at all. He really is a wonder! We had a quiet afternoon and evening – most of it was spent on the phone updating all our friends and family.
Saturday was Halloween. Happy Birthday Gary! We love you!! Today was Austin’s first experience with the holiday since he was premature and spent last Halloween in the hospital. We spent the day as we normally do – brunch with the Eppel’s, purchasing a car seat in the afternoon. As soon as dinner was done, the magic began. I dressed up as a witch. Austin got into the pumpkin costume that Judy sewed for him. He was so cute in his little hat! Jeff took Austin door to door to visit a couple of neighborhood houses while I stayed home and delivered candy to the trick or treaters on our street. We saw some great costumes and had a wonderful time chatting with the neighbours!
Sunday was a pretty quiet day. We spent a couple of hours getting the car seat installed into the back of our car. Wow! That is quite the job!! We had a quiet night eating dinner together then tucked our little man into bed. Life is good.

We’ve talked about going for years, and finally made it to Medieval Times in Toronto for Valentine’s Day. Mike, Denise, Sandy and I drove in, had dinner and watched the show. Pretty spectacular!
Some grainy photos here.

Our home study is almost done, and we’re pushing to get the house ready. A big job was painting the bedrooms upstairs. We’d planned on painting for the next few weekends, but then Mom & Dad offered to drive down and help us get it all done this weekend instead! We started Thurs night, and as of 4pm Sat afternoon, we’re basically done (we probably have touch-ups later tonight, but that’s it!). Wow, what a difference this makes! We’re so lucky that they were generous enough to help out… this would have taken Sandy and I many, many more days to do alone! Here’s a bunch of photos.

I had minor surgery a couple of weeks ago. Not a big deal, but it meant that I had to take a week and a half off work, and park on the couch (it also means 3-4 weeks away from Aikido :/). Sandy stayed home with me for a couple of days, and we watched a lot of movies – it was fun. The second week was a little more dull though… (how many movies can you watch in a day!?). Let’s just say that I’m glad to be back to work today.
Books read
Movies watched
Also, episodes of Arrested Development, 30 Rock, Bullshit, Mythbusters, Robot Chicken.
As you can tell, I wasn’t in the mood for anything too serious while recuperating
