The Little Drummer Boy
Monday was a busy day. We took a 2 1/2 hour walk with our neighbour Denise. Austin managed to enjoy most of the trip. He had a nap, commented on the sites and only started to fuss when we were about 20 minutes from home. What a trooper! When we got home we had a package from Jeff’s mom for Master Austin. She sent two sets of hats, mittens, and scarves. They are just beautiful! Lisa and Ashley came to visit later in the afternoon. They played with bubble wrap, boxes, and cell phones. I’m not sure why we purchase toys – they are not the plaything of choice – at least not in our household. I take this as a good sign. Austin would rather use his imagination to make up play then get the same reaction from an electronic device. We had our neighbours Ann, Christine, and Olivia over for dinner and a movie. We ate curry before enjoying Mamma Mia. Austin didn’t get to watch the movie but enjoyed the stimulation of new company over meal time.
Austin got his 12 month innoculations on Tuesday. We did nothing else – staying home and quiet for the day.
On Wednesday, Austin appeared to be doing well so we went to Old Navy to get a new winter coat with matching hat and mittens. We then stopped at the Walmart to pick up a few groceries and two more baby blankets that match his favourite suckie (known only as “blanket” – we’re not so creative with the cutsie names here). In the afternoon, a neighbour, Erin stopped by to play with Austin for a few minutes. We then hosted dinner for another neighbour, Pam. If you haven’t guessed by now, we live in a great neighbourhood and spend much time with our friends.
On Thursday, we took another walk with Denise (only a little over an hour – our normal route) and she came back to our place for lunch. Jeff spent the evening alone with Austin as I had to attend a Mary Kay party at a friends house. The Tap Chick Reunite! Much fun and makeup was had by all. Note to self: never, never, never, never wear blue eyeshadow again.
Friday was relatively quiet. Again we got Austin outside for a walk but spent most of the day inside cleaning and organizing the house.
Saturday, we had brunch with The Eppels after Aikido. Jeff and I took Austin for a hike on the nature trail in St. Jacobs in the afternoon, then stopped at the Conestoga Mall to pick up infant formula and enjoy dinner in the food court. The Thai place is very good!
On Sunday, Jeff and I attended the wedding our our friends John and Deb in Toronto. It was a beautiful ceremony for two wonderful people. Denise babysat Austin so he had a great day playing with Erich and Erin before passing out in his own crib (a huge benefit when your neighbour is also your babysitter – Thanks Denise!)
We have stopped giving Austin a bottle of formula when he wakes in the night. We have substituted water instead. Low and behold, Austin has stopped waking up in the middle of the night. Apparently water is just not worth it! This is great news for me as I can really use some uninterrupted sleep!
Austin appears to love drumming on any object within reach. He might just take after his grandfather (Jeff’s father) and start up his own band. Grampa, you know we are counting on you to give him lessons (and to allow him to play at your house). Just another reason to get Jeff and Judy living closer.
