Week 20: October 12 – 18

First Birthday Cake

First Birthday Cake

Monday, October 12th 2009 was Austin’s one year birthday.  It was also Thanksgiving and we had much to be thankful for.  In the morning, Austin’s aunt Shauna and cousin Ashlie came over for a visit.  They delivered presents for Austin.  Later in the day, we hosted family at our house for turkey and birthday cake.  My mom and dad were here from PEI.  Jeff’s parents could not attend because Jeff Sr. was still getting back to normal after his health testing.  He was taking antibiotics but had to stay close to the hospital in case of complications.  Jeff’s grandmother Nan came from Niagara falls with Toni, Art, and Janice.  Jeff’s uncle Dave and his girlfriend Audrey came from Toronto.  After dinner, Lisa and Ryan joined us for birthday cake and the opening of Austin’s presents.  We had a wonderful day filled with good food and good friends.

Tuesday was a trip to Guelph in search of a LUSH store.  We found one in the Stone Road mall and picked up a few items and grabbed a bit of lunch before returning home to Kitchener.  My mom had packed long sleeved clothing expecting colder weather. We had some warm sunny days requiring light clothing.  We hit the local thrift store to pick up some t-shirts and books.

Wednesday my dad spent the day with his younger brother Carl.  Mom and I stayed home with Austin all day long.

We headed to the St. Jacob’s market on Thursday but it was so cold that we decided to pick up a few things and get back into the car as quickly as possible. We headed to Mary Maxim in Paris driving without a map to enjoy the Ontario countryside.  We spent our afternoon browsing and buying crafty things.

Austin and I headed to the Grand River Hospital on Friday morning to attend a pre-surgery appointment.  We registered for his surgery and Austin met with a doctor who listened to his heart and lungs.  We are all set for Austin’s surgery on October 30th.

Saturday was market day and we had better weather.  We went to the Kitchener, Cambridge, and St. Jacob’s Farmers markets.  In the evening, we headed to King’s Buffet for a dinner out.  Austin made such and incredible mess that we had to tip very generously.  He enjoyed himself a little bit too much.  Who would have thought a little baby could fling so much food?

Jeff and Judy headed to Florida on Sunday.  They stopped for a visit and stayed for lunch.  It was hard for them to leave Austin here in Canada while they head South.  We will try our best to get Austin down to Florida in the spring.
