We had Austin for a sleepover last night, and it went without a hitch! It was the longest stretch we’ve had him so far (over 24 hours, with a sleepover in the middle) and he did really well. I’m sure being bounced and forth is a little confusing for him, but he’s handling it really well, and it gives him time to adjust to the change.
Here he is on his exer-saucer. This is quickly becoming a new favorite toy!

We are so fortunate to have a beautiful son with a fantastic birth family who want only the best for our little boy. They are sending his crib and change table when he comes to live with us. We went to Ikea on the weekend to get a few things to make his room complete. We found a fantastic chest of drawers that hold (almost) all of his clothes. We ordered a storage unit for his toys and books. We bought a cool rug, a floor lamp, a hamper, a toy bag, cups, bowls, frames and artwork. His room really feels like a little boys bedroom now.

Jeff’s mother Judy was in Niagara Falls visiting her mother. She made the trip to Kitchener to see her first and only grandson, Austin on Saturday. As you can tell, she is thrilled.

We’ve been visiting Austin every day after work and having a lot of fun! We’ll continue seeing him every day, and eventually he’ll start coming here for visits. It will make the final transition a lot easier and give us a great opportunity to learn as much as we can from Lisa.
Picture for today! Lots more here:

We met Austin, our son, for the first time today. What an emotional experience! He’s such a charming, funny and sweet little guy. We’re very, very fortunate to have the opportunity to be his parents.

We also had a fantastic visit with his Aunt Lisa. Austin has had a great start to his life, thanks to Lisa and Ashlie. Austin is very lucky to have people in his life who love him so much.
Here’s all of the pictures! Sorry, I haven’t filtered them yet… I can’t bear to delete even the bad ones

On Saturday afternoon, Jeff and I decided to go to Babies R Us and setup a registry.
We have friends, family and co-workers eager to throw baby showers and we need to do our duty and make the gifting as easy as possible. It was a bit of work to organize but once we got a scanner gun it was “fun, fun, fun ’till the store clerk took the scanner away”. Of course we had to log into our registry from home and fix all the errors that we made when scanning items. We had three – count them – three cribs on the scanner. It just wouldn’t stop – it was out of control! Thank goodness for the internet. It saved us yet again.
On our way out of the store we purchased our first gift for Austin, a rubber giraffe named Sophie from France. It was $22.00. Wow! I am in the wrong business. You can make a mint off of new parents. They will pay any amount of money for toys and such.
I spent all of Saturday night on Kijii looking for baby items for Austin. I spent part of Saturday night and a solid four hours on Sunday picking up the items I had found for Austin on Kijii. We now have a ton of stuff.
- 3 pairs of shoes
- 34 pieces of assorted clothing (at least three pairs of overalls, pants, shirts, diaper shirts, sweaters, etc.)
- a Graco stroller
- a Graco playpen
- a Graco highchair (we need to buy stock in Graco)
- a Baby Bjorn carrier
- an Evenflow Ultra Saucer (Holly, we took the soft squishy animals off the saucer and replaced them with the elephant and turtle that you made for us last year – we’ll send a picture)
- a bouncy chair
- a booster seat (for coloring at the table – I’m a bit ahead of myself)
- a mobile for the crib
- one of those things you put on the spout in the tub so the baby doesn’t get bumped or burned
- toys too many to count (two xylophones, at least two pianos, a noisy car thing, a speak and say farmer in the dell thing, teething rings, rattles, a play blanket, a basketball thing, an abacus – I know “what the hell?”, a whirly ball thing, another ball thing, lots of things that make noise).
We’ve just spent two hours washing everything in soapy hot water and vinegar. We are done for the night. Time for a tea.
Happy Mother’s Day to all (including me).

We’ve been chosen to adopt a beautiful 6 month old baby boy named Austin Michael. We don’t yet have many details (not even a picture). We will be meeting him next Tuesday. Our transition period will last approximately 3 weeks. We’re expecting to bring him home as our son on June 1. We are over the moon!
