Adoption Barbeque

On Saturday, July 26th Jeff and I attended a potluck BBQ with many of the people that we met when we did our PRIDE training for our adoption earlier this year. It was wonderful to catch up and hear how adoption procedings were progressing for everyone. Our friends Joe and Greg were celebrating their last night in town before leaving for Windsor to pick up their new son! It was a wonderful day and one I hope we can duplicate again soon so we can continue to meet everyone’s new family additions. It’s happening all around us now. So exciting!

RapidMind’s Amazing Race

A short week after the Medicalis Amazing Race, RapidMind did something similar in Elora. The Amazing Elora Race is run by a One Axe Pursuits, and does corporate team-building events around the town of Elora and the Elora Gorge. We were split into six teams, and had to race around the area collecting clues, solving puzzles, and going through some physical challenges: we ran, climbed and rappelled, and at once point I ended up on a zip line across the gorge!

Fantastic event, and thanks to a couple of teammates who insisted on running the whole time, our team won! The beer afterwards might have been the best part. Full photos here.

The Medicalis Amazing Race 2008

Tuesday, July 22, 2008 was the annual Medicalis picnic. We had a wonderful afternoon at Chicopee in an “Amazing Race” event. Here are a few photos.

At Least It Wasn’t A Tornado…

We had an incredible storm slam KW Tuesday night. We were at the Medicalis summer BBQ, having a great time, when the clouds rolled in. By 7:30, it was hailing, pouring down rain, and generally miserable weather.

It wasn’t until driving home 20 mins later that I realized just how much water had fallen. Roads were buried in a foot of water, manhole covers had blown out of the ground from the sudden pressure change. Here’s a couple of shots (taken on my Blackberry while the car was stopped, I promise!)

Even more staggering was the 8-10 inches of water in our backyard! No damage done though, it drained overnight.

Ya Got Trouble…

Right here in River City.
Trouble with a capital “T”
And that rhymes with “P” and that stands for pool!

Sandy & I spent Saturday in Stratford, doing a little shopping, and walking around town, and then hit the production of The Music Man at the Avon theatre. Fantastic show! I’m always impressed at the quality of the productions at Stratford, but this one topped them all!

Montreal Jazz Festival Photos

Ah, I love Montreal! The people were wonderful, the food outstanding, and the jazz… let’s just say it was worth standing in the rain risking a cold to hear it!

Photos posted here.

We have the best friends in the world!

We just returned from a weekend at the Montreal Jazz Festival. Our friends Mike and Denise surprised us with tickets to see “Return to Forever” (Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, Al Di Meola, and Lenny White). We drove up on Friday, stayed at the Best Western Europea, and returned on Sunday. It was awesome! The concert was incredible, the hotel was walking distance to the festival and the tour through Old Montreal was just wonderful. We visited Notre-Dame Basilica. What a beautiful church! I would highly recommend a trip to Montreal for everyone. If only you had friends as nice as we do – sigh.
